Wing slides often refer to the right-hand pair of wings. The wings were bleached with sodium hypochlorite and stained with acid fuchsin. Measurements of the forewing length and the length-versus-width (l/w) ratio include the fringe. The width is the largest possible width (from costa above tornus to tornus in a line perpendicular to a line from base to apex). All obtainable specimens were taken into account in the descriptions and measurements of the forewing length. The measurements of antenna length, labial palpus length, and length of the forewing l/w ratio were usually made only on the holotype, or on the best obtainable male specimen for amoebaea, decagramma, nephela, and xanthista, and on the best obtainable specimen of the opposite sex of the holotype when applicable. The wing venation category of Sparganothia is based on the venation of eight species: anopla, continua, cultrate, cocoana, laselvana, neoamoebaea, ternaria, and xanthista.
