The Final Pieces
This chapter discusses the efforts of the team to address the problem of the remaining outliers, and presents the interviews with the victims' families. Next, it discusses a previous theory on the possible cause of the anthrax outbreak, whereby the anthrax-contaminated clay fired in Chkalovskiy might have spewed spores into the atmosphere. The chapter states that four kinds of clay are used in the ceramics factory, and that the green clay is aged by microbial action, and then takes a look at the opinion of another doctor, who believes that the anthrax came from burning infected animal carcasses in pits. It also reviews the data gathered, and details the author's visit to the ceramics factory and her interview with two survivors of the epidemic.
