This chapter examines the philosophic biography of Platonist philosophers Porphyry and Iamblichus. It provides commentaries on some of the biographical works of these philosophers including Porphyry's On Abstinence and Life of Plotinus, and Imablichus' Life of Pythagoras. It suggests that On Abstinence portrays the ideal philosopher who is detached from worldly concerns while the other works are not freestanding biography as they are part of a larger project.
