It discusses Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej's accusation that Ana Pauker and her allies sought to duplicate mass repression taking place throughout the Soviet Bloc, and that she did not support the prosecution of Lucrețiu Patraşcanu. The chapter also explains the details of the Patraşcanu case, and considers the repression of Spanish Civil War and French Resistance veterans in Romania.
