In this chapter, I analyze John of Ephesus’s hagiographic portrait of Simeon of Beth Arsham, the Persian Debater. I show how this portrait embodied the ideals of the Miaphysite Christians in the sixth century. I do a literary analysis on Simeon as a missionary saint and show how this hagiography maps out John of Ephesus’s vision for the Miaphysite leaders.
