This chapter studies the animal anthrax outbreak. It shows that the research team met with the chief veterinarian of the city SES, who confirmed that the Burgasov documents are authentic on account of the signatures of the specialists, and then looks at the visit to the village of Abramovo, where several cattle died in April 1979. The chapter details the interviews of the owners of the infected cattle which died, who reveal that they experienced rough treatment from a public health crew who tried to contain the disease. It then determines the timing and interpretation of the animal cases in order to understand the confusion surrounding the source of the human anthrax outbreak. The chapter also presents some photographs, including maps of the locations of the anthrax victims and the villages that had reported cases of animal anthrax in 1979.
