Victor Considerant and the Rise and Fall of French Romantic Socialism

Jonathan Beecher

University of California Press

This chapter focuses on the life of Victor Considerant as a farmer in San Antonio, Texas. It explains that during the 1860s Considerant lived in greater isolated than at any other time of his life. He fell out of touch with the whole intellectual and political world that had previously been his element, and the vote of no confidence that he received in Paris in 1858 estranged him from many of the active Parisian Fourierists. The chapter also highlights Considerant's decision to return to France in 1869.
