This chapter traces the historical development of Titicaca Basin archaeology. This research is divided into three historical periods: from the Spanish Conquest to the late eighteenth century, from the late eighteenth century to approximately World War I and from World War I to the mid-twentieth century. This chapter provides a list of site types that can be found in the Titicaca Basin for all time periods.
