Boccherini's Body

Elisabeth Le Guin

University of California Press

This chapter presents a biography of Luigi Boccherini, focusing on his years in Spain. It describes the Spanish musical culture and notes that Boccherini spent thirty-six years in Spain. It provides commentaries on Jaime Tortella's biography of Boccherini and describes Boccherini's works while he was in Spain. It suggests that by virtue of his training and his exposure through travel to different kinds of music, Boccherini was well set up to maintain his competency, and he used it to good advantage throughout his career in Spain.
