This final chapter narrates the author's discovery of Claire Ferchaud. Jonas, the author, was awakened to the power of Claire's story by a chance encounter. While he did not know her story very well, he knew enough to be curious about her. Driven by his curiosity, he visited her home town of Loublande. During his visit he was introduced to a true believer of Claire. He had a close encounter with Claire's home and memories, and one remark in particular had an impact on him: “He's the man who didn't want to go where God wants him to go”, a remark Claire's believer uttered when the author elucidated on the meaning of his name, Jonas.
