This chapter examines the effects of grazing in California's grasslands, oak savanna understory vegetation, and associated herbaceous riparian areas, providing a brief history of grazing in California grasslands and examining the grazing effects on California grassland wildlife. It also describes the ways in which grazing by nondomestic large mammals such as elk differs from grazing by livestock.
