This chapter discusses the wild grazers on the Serengeti Plain. These animals—wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, buffalo, and other grazers have been documented to illustrate an interesting phenomenon about such grazing animals: most prefer short grass over the taller grass nearby. Both the migratory millions and the resident grazers usually prefer to feed in the sites where grass seldom grows higher than a few inches. They return to the same shortgrass swards year after year.
