This chapter reveals the mettle of Afghan women as poets, rulers, educators, politicians, revolutionaries, female Mujahedin, and in daily life. Afghan women have faced seemingly endless threats to their survival throughout the history of Afghanistan, and have a long history of spirited resistance and resilience, forging unique, culturally apt solutions to these challenges. They played a vital role in the street protests, civil unrest, and even military activities of the 1970s and 1980s. In addition to resisting educational restrictions, Afghan women under the Taliban found ways to earn money through projects done at home. Afghan women's history of strength and resilience is the best model for how Afghan women, and the country as a whole, can continue to successfully navigate a resilient pathway amongst the progress, disappointment, and backlash in order to ultimately create the Afghanistan of their hopes and dreams.
