George Hudson's Band at the Club Plantation played with the hottest acts in show business. Clark managed to impress George and the guys with his talent and new ideas to play. George was impressed with Clark's talent, his ambition, and his ideas. He gave Clark the opportunity to rehearse the band and incorporate his systems of phrasing. Not only was Clark in the hottest band, but George made him feel that everything he had done in order to get there was worth it. He made himself open to try things that had built up in Clark's mind over the years about jazz. A lot of them were based on sounds from Carondelet. Clark even used the tricks and techniques he had learnt as a part of the naval band, but his addiction to gambling was hard to let go.
