Clark describes his experience with Chippie, a waitress. It was during his association with Chippie that he heard a fantastic trumpet playing, which, as he describes was something that no one had ever heard before. As he went up, he discovered that it was Dewey playing the trumpet, and this was the time when Clark and Dewey rekindled their relationship after many years. Dewey was in a band that had come down from East St. Louis. That was the beginning of a lifelong friendship, which had some high mountains and low valleys yet to come. It was also the beginning of Clark's vow to never fluff anybody off again. The band invited Clark and he ended up jamming all night long. George Simon, from the Metronome magazine, was there to write a chapter on Clark, much to Clark's oblivion, who was having the time of his life.
