In this chapter, Clark Terry shares his experience after the end of the carnival when he was set to leave for Florida. To earn more money, Turk helped him join with another traveling show, “Ida Cox and Her Dark Town Scandals.” It was during this journey that Clark and his friend experienced a major case of racial discrimination. Clark Terry then shares his experience with Ida's band and their performance. Most of the little money he made from the show was spent on food and drinks. With not much more than a couple of bucks to show for himself, he didn't want to go home broke. So he made it his business to find Turk, hoping that he could make enough money to get back home.
