Why Build Biodiverse Communities?
This chapter discusses the importance of conserving urban biodiversity. The construction and maintenance of urban communities affect natural resource consumption and impact surrounding natural areas. Because cities are the primary areas through which people interact with and have an effect on nature, they are important environments in which to promote a conservation ethic. Also discussed in this chapter are the ecosystem benefits, social and health benefits, and the economic benefits of conserving biodiversity.
