A National Church Experienced
Chapter 5, “A National Church Experienced,” examines how a range of new experiences transformed an “imagined” religious community into an increasingly tangible and central part of Vietnamese Catholic life during the interwar years. It focuses on processes such as labor migration, travel, urbanization, new forms of association (under the banner of the global movement known as Catholic Action), pilgrimages to the Catholic holy site of Our Lady of La Vang, and international Catholic festivals such as Eucharistic Congresses.
